Is The Greater Boston Food Bank a good charity?

GBFB is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is the leading hunger-relief agency in New England and among the largest in the country, serving 190 cities and towns throughout our robust distribution network of over 600 partner agencies. From its humble beginnings in 1974, GBFB has grown to provide over 109 million pounds of healthy food each year to feed more than 600,000 people each month. 

We take a bold and innovative approach to ending hunger here, and we strive to operate to the highest standards of efficiency. As a result, 92% of funds go directly toward our hunger-relief efforts. Read our financial results here.

What expenditures go to programing?

You can be assured that for every dollar donated to GBFB, 92¢ is applied directly to hunger-relief efforts. GBFB strives to provide our neighbors in need in Eastern Massachusetts with the access to three healthy meals a day. The importance of our mission—and our desire to always do more to help those who depend on us—have driven us to operate to the highest standards of cost-effectiveness. We use technology to achieve the greatest efficiency in our warehouse and put sound nutrition at the forefront of everything we do. As a result, when you donate to GBFB, every dollar supplies two nutritious meals, including fresh produce, protein, and dairy.
