The Kip Tiernan Society

Kip TiernanThe Kip Tiernan Society honors Mary Jane “Kip” Tiernan (1926-2011) and The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) donors who share her compassionate vision.

As a young child during the Great Depression, Kip saw her grandmother feed people in need from her own home. That generosity inspired Kip in the mid-1970s when she decided to feed hungry people by filling her station wagon with food and distributing it to those in need on the streets of Boston. Kip’s efforts were the origin of today’s GBFB.

The Kip Tiernan Society is a growing group of donors who have included a future gift for The Greater Boston Food Bank in their estate plans. GBFB’s offer of membership in the Society allows those who choose to join an opportunity to connect with us more closely in customized ways meaningful to them, such as options to:

  • Connect more deeply with GBFB by enhancing knowledge of its current initiatives through a dedicated personal contact
  • Enjoy small in-person and/or online gatherings, as there may be collective interest, for special learning opportunities and socialization
  • Create a personal legacy statement that contains biographical information and inspiration for supporting GBFB

If you have included a gift for GBFB in your estate plans, thank you for supporting hunger-relief in our community for years to come. Please let us know so that we may express appreciation to you personally and invite you to join The Kip Tiernan Society.
