To Our Eastern Massachusetts Community,
These are uncertain and tumultuous times, and I know many of us are feeling the weight of the challenges we face. Yet, it is during moments like these that we persevere by coming together, focusing on what we can control—and our own actions—and mobilizing to support the most vulnerable among us.
For nearly 45 years, The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) has been a steadfast presence in our community, and for nearly 30 of those years, I have had the privilege of working alongside incredible partners and supporters to address food insecurity.
As we navigate the road ahead, I want to share a few principles guiding our work and our resolve:
Since our founding in 1981, GBFB’s mission has been clear: to do anything and everything we can to support the needs of our partners and clients. Food is a human right. No one should go hungry. Access to food directly impacts health, productivity, and overall quality of life.
With uncertainty around potential changes in policies, we must be prepared to act to ensure no one in our community goes without the food they need, especially children and seniors. Access to healthy food for all members of our community is our priority and we are developing new and expanded programs to support this effort.
We have weathered uncertainty before, bolstered by support from federal, state, and city governments; donors; volunteers; advocates; clients; strategic partners; and agency partners. Each time, we have emerged stronger, more resilient, and more determined. Now, in addition to supporting those who are hungry in our communities, we will be on the lookout for the needs of those who may be newly at risk of food insecurity in Eastern Massachusetts and across the Commonwealth. Our investments in our network of more than 600 agency partners are sound, and we are working closely with coalitions that are advocating in support of our community. These partnerships drive our ongoing growth and evolution.
Hunger is a solvable problem, and it requires all of us—working together—to move ever closer to a future where all in our community have consistent access to healthy food. We have come so far, making a profound impact on the lives of our neighbors in need. Together, we can build on the progress we’ve made on behalf of the people who rely on us.
I am deeply grateful for your continued support, dedication, and belief in our shared mission. Together, we have faced challenges before, and together, we will face them again. Let us remain steadfast in our commitment to one another and to the vision of a hunger-free community.
With gratitude,
