Community Investment Grants

Investing in our partner agencies through grantmaking is essential in empowering and equipping them to dream bigger about the impact they can have in their communities.

What are Community Investment Grants?

Women Cooking in Food PantryWomen with vegetables

A walk-in freezer in Boston, a teaching kitchen in Revere, a building renovation in New Bedford—projects and expansions at hunger relief organizations across the state are being powered by Community Investment Grants from The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB).

Since 2013, GBFB has awarded nearly $7 million to partner agencies that serve all 190 towns and cities in Eastern Massachusetts. Through this financial assistance, we empower our network of partners to better serve people facing hunger in their communities.

I don’t think it’s overstating it to say that being a partner agency of The Greater Boston Food Bank and having access to their grant program has been absolutely instrumental to some of our steps in meeting our clients’ needs.”
—Tina Powderly, Executive Director, Franklin Food Pantry

Funds From Community Investment Grants Help Agencies to:
  • Purchase new refrigerators and storage
  • Expand food transportation services
  • Add staff to support operations
  • Upskill workforces
  • Improve infrastructure
  • Respond to unique food-related needs in communities

At a critical time when 1 in 3 Massachusetts residents face food insecurity, the Community Investment Grant program is part of GBFB’s commitment to elevating solutions from those with lived experience with hungerand speaks to the power of partnerships to end hunger here.

Community Investment Grant Spotlight: YMCA of Greater Boston

The YMCA of Greater Boston estimates that they distribute food to as many as 10,000 individuals every seven days. They’ve been able to do that, in part, thanks to Community Investment Grants from GBFB in 2021 and 2022, which have helped them successfully manage that expansion and growth.
