Michelle Donohue Joins The Greater Boston Food Bank as Executive Vice President of Human Resources and Administration
Donohue brings over 20 years of nonprofit leadership, supporting GBFB’s growing team in addressing food insecurity
Boston, MA (February 3, 2025) – The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB), the largest hunger-relief organization in New England, has welcomed Michelle Donohue as Executive Vice President of Human Resources and Administration. In this role, Donohue will oversee the organization’s HR function, provide key insights to its executive leadership team, drive organizational culture, and support both workforce development and strategic planning.
Donohue will support the success of over 120 GBFB employees who work to fuel the state’s emergency food system, providing nutritious food to over 600 food distribution partners across Eastern Massachusetts as 1 in 3 of the state’s residents face food insecurity.
“I feel immense gratitude to join a team that so expertly responds to the overwhelming need for food across our state,” said Michelle Donohue, Executive Vice President of Human Resources and Administration at GBFB. “The work that this organization carries out is absolutely essential, and it is done with intention and a deep understanding of the pervasive issue at hand. Stepping into this role, I am eager to continue cultivating an inclusive culture and high-performing team while future-proofing GBFB’s workforce, so we can continue to meet the dynamic needs of our network and those it serves.”
Donohue brings over 20 years of experience in non-profit leadership to GBFB. Prior to joining the food bank, she served as Chief Integration Officer at Advocates, Inc., a human services agency that provides a range of services for those with developmental disabilities, autism, brain injuries, or behavioral health needs. During her tenure, she was responsible for the oversight and coordination of operational functions and strategic initiatives, including the merger and integration planning of three organizations. She has also held human resources management roles at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital.
“Our organization’s extensive hunger-relief efforts are only possible by having a dedicated, compassionate and efficient team,” said Catherine D’Amato, GBFB President and CEO. “With decades of experience in HR and administration at organizations rooted in service and community wellbeing, Michelle is uniquely equipped to drive a culture of continued collaboration, action and compassion in our collective mission to create a hunger-free future.”
In addition to her role at GBFB, Donohue also serves as a member of the community Board of Advisors for the Massachusetts Association for Mental Health and has taught courses in organizational development at Emmanuel College. Michelle holds a master’s degree in human resources management from Emmanuel College and a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Boston College. She is certified as a Senior Human Resources Professional through the Society of Human Resources Management.
