Boston, MA – The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) recently launched its annual Holiday Meal Drive, an online fundraising effort, to help ensure that thousands of families in need will be able to enjoy healthy meals featuring traditional seasonal ingredients during this holiday season. With one in nine residents of Eastern Massachusetts struggling to put food on the table, GBFB is calling on the public to support hungry children, seniors, veterans, college students and working families by participating in this important campaign.
Since 2010, GBFB’s annual holiday fundraising effort has distributed nutritious meals to individuals and families in 190 Eastern Massachusetts cities and towns. This holiday season, GBFB hopes to distribute close to 45,000 healthy meals – complete with turkey and other poultry, green beans, gravy, stuffing, corn, potatoes and cranberry sauce – and is asking Bay State residents for their help.
Individuals, families and friends, businesses and organizations can help bring families together around the table next month. Through an online donation of just $20, supporters of the Holiday Meal Drive will provide a family of five with a holiday meal, complete with all the fixings.
According to GBFB President and CEO, Catherine D’Amato, more Massachusetts families are struggling to keep up with the cost of living and the price of a traditional holiday meal is often prohibitive. “This holiday season, we’re asking the community to help us help those in need by making a donation to the Holiday Meal Drive,” said D’Amato. “Let’s share in the joy of the season and ensure that our struggling friends, neighbors and colleagues have the opportunity to enjoy holiday meals with their families.”
