The Greater Boston Food Bank Earns Highest Possible Ratings from Two Nonprofit Assessment Programs
Platinum Seal of Transparency on Candid & Four-Star Rating on Charity Navigator
(Boston, MA) July 8, 2024 – The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB), the largest hunger-relief organization in New England, has been awarded the Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid (formally known as GuideStar) and a four-star rating from Charity Navigator. Very few nonprofit organizations receive both distinctions, putting GBFB among the most respected non-profit organizations not just in Massachusetts but throughout the country.
Candid’s Platinum Seal of Transparency signifies the highest level of recognition, with fewer than 1% of the nonprofit organizations in the U.S. having earned a Platinum Seal. This achievement demonstrates that GBFB excels in terms of financial transparency, sound governance, and a commitment to measuring progress and results. This recognition also signifies that the food bank is actively implementing evidence-based practices and displaying accountability for the impact of its work providing healthy food to our neighbors in need.
GBFB’s overall score from Charity Navigator is 99%, earning the food bank a four-star rating. Charity Navigator provides the data, ratings and advice that cut through the noise, making it easy for donors and other supporters to make informed choices. GBFB’s rating was based on a 100% score on Impact & Measurement and 98% score on Accountability and Finance, which included perfect scores in both the Program Expense and Fundraising Efficiency categories, among many other categories that are all listed on GBFB’s Charity Navigator page.
This recognition reflects consistently strong performance in all aspects of the organization’s business practices including 13 consecutive clean financial audits and a near-perfect score of 980 in the recent re-accreditation review with the American Institute of Baking, GBFB’s food safety accreditation body.
“Receiving both of these recognitions is a testament to the hard-working GBFB team members that are committed to being good stewards of the resources that our many supporters entrust us with to provide everyone in need with access to nutritious food every day,” said Catherine D’Amato, GBFB’s president and CEO. “While we are proud of this accomplishment, we know that our work is more necessary than ever before, with one in three people in our state experiencing food insecurity last year. With continued support from our donors, volunteers, and government officials, we believe we have the power to end hunger here in Eastern Massachusetts.”
