Meet our Hunger Heroes:
Katherine Carlson

Published on February 28, 2025

We’re thrilled to share that five incredible Hunger Heroes will be hitting the pavement in April and running the Boston Marathon for GBFB. In addition to this incredible feat, our five runners will raise funds to provide healthy food for our neighbors in need across Eastern Massachusetts. Read more about our runners and how you can support their efforts to make a difference in our community.

Katherine’s running story: “I started running in 2018 when my cousins convinced me to run a half marathon with them. I never thought I would be a runner but once I got into it, I was hooked. Since then, I have run one marathon, several half marathons and more 5Ks and 10Ks than I can count. Running allows me to keep out of my head and kind of reset every now and then…I am very excited to be able to run the Boston Marathon this year.”

Hometown: Westminster, MA

Occupation: Farmer

Favorite food to fuel for runs: Pasta

Related Click ‘N Cook recipe: Powerhouse Pesto Pasta

Katherine’s running playlist: Lots of upbeat country songs, some Whitney Houston, and other upbeat songs

A fun fact about Katherine: “I am a third-generation farmer taking care of my family’s orchard that my grandparents started in 1936,” she says.

Why GBFB: “[Carlson Orchards] has worked closely with the Greater Boston Food hub over the past several years and will continue to do so in the future,” says Katherine. “As a farmer, I see local families come through the doors of our establishment that may not know where their food is coming from, so I strive to teach them…It is so important that everyone has the ability to receive food whether it be by buying it at the local grocery store or through an organization such as The Greater Boston Food Bank.”
