Meet our Hunger Heroes: Stephen Farmer

Published on February 28, 2025

We’re thrilled to share that five incredible Hunger Heroes will be hitting the pavement in April and running the Boston Marathon for GBFB. In addition to this incredible feat, our five runners will raise funds to provide healthy food for our neighbors in need across Eastern Massachusetts. Read more about our runners and how you can support their efforts to make a difference in our community.

Stephen’s running story: “I ran my first marathon in 2018 (Philadelphia) and then another one in 2019 (Richmond),” says Stephen. “After being seven minutes away from qualifying for Boston, I was ready to push for that goal in 2020, but then COVID cancelled races…I’ve always wanted to run Boston and doing so through GBFB is the perfect means for it.”

Hometown: Milton, MA

Occupation: Sales Operations

Favorite food to fuel for runs: Pizza, noodles, pasta

Stephen’s running playlist: Sports podcasts, hip hop, and pop music

A fun fact about Stephen: “My wife and I have been traveling around the country the past two years. She works in travel healthcare, while I work remotely. We’ve lived in five different time zones in those two years!” he says.

Why GBFB: “When my uncle William “Bill” Farmer passed away three years ago, he left a generous check for GBFB, as it’s been an important organization to our family for many years,” Stephen explains. Since 2011, he’s volunteered several times sorting food in GBFB’s Yawkey Distribution Center. “The importance and scale of what GBFB does for the community is inspiring,” he says.
