Girl Scouts in Wellesley Donate to End Hunger Here

Published on November 6, 2024

Like many fourth graders, the members of Girl Scout Troop 64049 in Wellesley love cute animals. In years past, they donated their cookie sale funds toward wildlife related causes—until they learned that kids in their community are facing hunger.

“In this year’s philanthropy planning, one of the girls mentioned that she had heard some kids get hungry,” says Troop Leader and GBFB donor Judith Beswick. “They found that quite shocking.”

The girls did their own research and agreed to donate their funds to GBFB to help end hunger here.

“These aren’t large sums of money, but I believe the process of learning about needs and ways in which they can pitch in, even as elementary schoolers, is an important thing for my girls,” explains Judith.

During the holiday season, the young students’ generosity reminds us that everyone has the power to end hunger, whether we donate, advocate, volunteer—or sell cookies.
