The Greater Boston Food Bank is pleased to share with the community our official Spotify Playlist! Our team has carefully selected over 60 songs to bring together a diverse range of genres for our playlist (that’s almost four hours of listening time!).
To kick-off our playlist, we wanted to note a few key songs that our team chose that align with significant events in GBFB’s history. The songs listed below soared to the top of the U.S. Billboard charts, ultimately, changing music history forever. Just like GBFB has left and continues to leave a profound positive impact across Eastern Massachusetts, these top music hits shaped generations and helped us as a society to tell a greater story of our social fabric.
In 1974, Kip Tiernan starts what is now known as The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) by distributing food from the back of her station wagon.
1981: I’m Coming Out by Diana Ross
Approved articles of incorporation officially created The Greater Boston Food Bank organization in 1981.
1982: You’ve Never Let Me Down by Kenny Rogers
GBFB becomes a member of the America’s Second Harvest (now known as Feeding America) in 1982.
1995: I’m the Only One by Melissa Etheridge
Catherine D’Amato, our current President and CEO, joined GBFB in 2009.
1999: Believe by Cher
During 1999, GBFB exceeds 100 million total pounds of food distributed for the first time.
2009: Love Story by Taylor Swift
In 2009 GBFB moves into our new 117,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility, the Yawkey Distribution Center.
The work to end hunger is not over, and GBFB will continue to make strides to empower our neighbors to have access to healthy and nutritious meals so that they can thrive. Together, we have the power to end hunger, and while we work to support our communities in need, we’ll march to the beat of our new playlist.
We hope you enjoy a little piece of our GBFB Team, view the full playlist here.
