Everyone has a role in ending hunger and there are many ways to help. Beyond giving money, giving time can be just as rewarding.
The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) and the entire hunger-relief network would not operate without the support of volunteers. Many of our strongest volunteers are families who give back together.
Arlington parents Carolynn and Chris Vincent, along with their sons Jack, 11 and Walter, 14, have been volunteering at GBFB and our partner agencies for the past six years.
“When we’re all doing it together as a family it feels like we’re a team and that all of us are working together to solve a problem and help the world,” Jack said.
At a GBFB volunteer event last spring for families with young children, Walter and Jack were inducted into our first class of Super Hunger Heroes—a group of kids committed to community service. They’ve also served food to people in need at a GBFB Mobile Market and partner agency in Framingham.
“It’s a good feeling afterwards that I helped people,” Walter said. “To help them sit down and have a good dinner with their families.”
