‘Chain of Giving’ Kicks Off Holiday Season

Chain of Giving

Governor Charlie Baker, Boston Mayor Martin Walsh and more than 100 of our friends and supporters joined us on Thursday, Nov. 9 for our 12th annual “Chain of Giving.”

The morning’s event culminated in the formation of a human chain, from our loading bay to our 6,000 square-foot freezer, passing along turkeys one by one.

All of our partners working together moved nearly 3,000 pounds of turkeys into our freezer in less than 15 minutes!

We also presented the GBFB Nally Award, given annually to young people who purposefully act to end hunger in their community.

Chain of Giving Bella
This year’s Nally Award winner Bella has held food and fund drives for five years!

This year’s winner was Bella Matthews of Dedham. Bella, 13, has run her own holiday food drive and fundraiser for the last five years. Last winter, she donated enough food and money to GBFB to help us provide over 5,000 healthy meals to our neighbors in need.

“The difference for a lot of people between having a chance to enjoy the holiday season the same way everybody else does is in many respects a function of the millions of meals that are going to be delivered through this food bank and the partners it works with,” Baker said. “We are all enormously grateful for the work that you do.”

You can help more families receive good food for the holidays by donating to our Holiday Meal Drive. Just $20 will provide a complete Thanksgiving meal for a family in need.
