GBFB’s all-new website, ClickNCook.org, makes healthy eating easy, tasty and affordable, not only for those we serve but for everyone. Its more than 500 recipes feature everyday ingredients found in most kitchens. And, the ingredients are also ones that GBFB regularly distributes.
Both novices and practiced cooks will appreciate Click ‘N Cook’s search function that allows users to type in up to three nutrition corner primary ingredients. Recipes can be filtered by category, such as high fiber, low cholesterol or vegetarian. Users can also filter by cooking method, such as oven, microwave or slow cooker, for those with limited cooking resources.
GBFB registered dietitians evaluate the easy-to-follow recipes for their nutritional value, as they do for all the food GBFB distributes. Each recipe includes nutrition facts like those found on packaged foods. Also on the site, Click ‘N Cook’s “Healthy Tips” blog offers nutrition guidance, preparation suggestions, ingredient substitutions, and more. Users can save recipes, share them, and add their own to the profile.
Click ‘N Cook is an innovative adjunct to GBFB’s public health initiative, which supports community health centers treating many food insecure patients. Our community health center partners can share Click ‘N Cook with their patients as a practical resource. In addition, GBFB will distribute Click ‘N Cook recipes specific to the foods offered at our free produce-only Mobile Markets. GBFB member agencies will be able to do the same for their clients.
“The new Click ‘N Cook site furthers our work connecting hunger and health by providing a diverse collection of economical recipes and practical cooking and nutrition tips,” said Carol Tienken, GBFB Chief Operating Officer. “Although we developed Click ‘N Cook for those we serve, anyone looking for ideas for a delicious, healthy meal will find hundreds on the site.”
