To help 21 agencies order more food and spend less time picking it up, GBFB has launched a new cross dock in New Bedford.
Serving over 500 agencies throughout Eastern Massachusetts with food, including many perishable items that require proper refrigeration, creates a huge logistical puzzle. To reach more communities, GBFB uses Cross Docks, which enable our drivers to take truckloads of food to a donated location with shipping docks, where agencies can pick it up.
The new Cross Dock in New Bedford means that agencies, such as the pantry at the Veteran’s Association of Bristol County, will no longer have to travel into the city to the GBFB warehouse to pick up their orders. This increased convenience will allow them to order more food and will also ease the workload at GBFB, freeing up resources to help more people in need. Additionally, GBFB is looking to increase food distribution in southeast Massachusetts, and this Cross Dock will help us reach more people.
