On Friday, September 21, WCVB-TV 5, Stop & Shop and Unilever joined forces to “Stuff-A-Truck” for The Greater Boston Food Bank. This day-long event resulted in food donations of 7,606 from the general public, enough food for 5,850 meals. WCVB-TV broadcast live from Stop & Shop at 160 Providence Highway, Dedham, from 5:00am-8:00pm, with broadcasters John Atwater, Susan Warnick, and Anthony Everett each positioned in the truck for a portion of the day. This location brought in 5,878 pounds of food, enough for 4,522 meals. WCVB capped the evening with a special episode of Chronicle, to help raise awareness of hunger in Eastern Massachusetts. At Stop & Shop on Furlong Drive in Revere, customers filled a Peapod truck with donations. Notable Boston radio stations 101.7 The Harbor and Kiss 108FM broadcasted live from the event. Unilever provided flyers and promotional materials for this location, resulting in 1,728 pounds of food donations (enough for 1,329 meals) in just four hours! Initiatives such as ‘Stuff-A-Truck’ are a great reminder that everyone has a role in ending hunger in our community.
