Three Hundred Boston Area Women Help end hunger here

Published on September 20, 2012

On Wednesday, September 19, three hundred Boston area women joined Gail Graham, SVP of United Capital and Chair of Women Fighting Hunger, at the Mandarin Oriental, Boston for the second annual Women Fighting Hunger breakfast. These business and community leaders honored Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley for her steadfast commitment to ending hunger in the Commonwealth. Women Fighting Hunger is a compassionate group of women joining with The Greater Boston Food Bank to respond to the challenge of hunger in our community. Hunger is a women’s issue. Consider this:

  • 232,637 women in Eastern Massachusetts are receiving food from a pantry, community meal program or shelter.
  • One third of households receiving food assistance have at least one child in the home.
  • The Greater Boston Food Bank has seen a 23% increase in requests for food assistance since 2005.

Although there was no cost to attend the breakfast, these women came together to donate more than $60,000, enough to provide 142,143 meals to those in need. To get involved with Women Fighting Hunger, contact Stephanie Mollohan at smollohan@gbfb.org.
