GBFB and MA Department of Veterans’ Services host Mobile Food Market

On Monday, July 2, GBFB, in partnership with Massachusetts Department of Veterans’ Services (DVS), held its third mobile market for Veterans at Bunker Hill Community College. Nearly 150 Veterans and their families (close to 500 people) benefitted from the food distribution, including 73 seniors and 125 children. DVS extended invitations for the mobile market to Veterans qualifying for Chapter 115 assistance and their eligible dependents. Participants left with a variety of highly nutritious foods, including a wide variety of fresh produce, and sources of lean protein. “We feel fortunate to be able to partner with The Greater Boston Food Bank and Bunker Hill Community College to provide additional support to veterans in need,” said DVS Secretary Coleman Nee, who assisted with the distribution. “Massachusetts provides the most comprehensive and innovative benefits and services to veterans and their families in the country. This partnership is one shining example of what makes the Commonwealth a national leader for serving veterans.” In addition to receiving nutritious food items, many attendees had the opportunity to meet US Senator Scott Brown, who thanked the veterans in line for their years of service. In total, 5,260 pounds of food was distributed by volunteers from GBFB, Citizens Bank and Boston Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).
