“To wake up and not know how and when I was going to eat was scary.”
Heather was born with muscular dystrophy and has never been able to work. She is pregnant with her first child, but between her disability and her husband’s income, they didn’t have trouble paying bills or having enough to eat.
But last fall her husband fell at work and broke his arm and leg, and Heather and her husband were forced to go without. “There were a couple weeks where we really didn’t have any food. It was tough – you feel like you’re failing. To wake up and not know how and when I was going to eat was scary. I was really worried I wasn’t getting enough for the baby.”
Today, thanks to supplemental groceries the couple gets at Our Bread of Life pantry, they can make ends meet again. “It fills that gap,” she says.
