BOSTON – October 12, 2018 – The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB), the largest hunger-relief organization in New England, today announced its eighth annual Holiday Meal Drive. The drive helps to ensure that families in need across Eastern Massachusetts can partake in the tradition of a nutritious holiday meal. From Oct. 16 until Dec. 31, individuals and teams can donate online to help GBFB reach its goal of providing more than 12 million healthy meals during the 2018 holiday season.

GBFB encourages local businesses, clubs, church groups, families, friends and surrounding communities to start a Holiday Meal Drive fundraising team as a fun way to challenge each other to achieve a fundraising goal. To donate as a team or as an individual, please visit http://www.gbfb.org/holidaymeals/.
A $20 donation provides a healthy holiday meal for five, including turkey and traditional fixings, such as green beans, corn, stuffing, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, squash and apples. Alternatives such as chicken and fish and other options for those with dietary restrictions are available.
“With more than 500,000 people in Eastern Massachusetts not knowing where their next meal is coming come from, our Holiday Meal Drive goal is to help our neighbors struggling with hunger enjoy a healthy holiday meal they could not afford otherwise,” said Catherine D’Amato, president and CEO of GBFB.
GBFB will have a kick-off event, Chain of Giving, to the holiday season as part of the Holiday Meal Drive on November 8, from 10 – 11 a.m. at our facility located at 70 South bay Avenue in Boston. This is a press event where we invite donors, sports teams and Massachusetts politicians.
The Holiday Meal Drive was originally launched in 2010 to provide individuals and families across 190 Eastern Massachusetts cities and towns with nutritious meals during the holiday season. Ninety-two cents of every dollar received goes directly to help end hunger.
