Feeding America Recognizes The Greater Boston Food Bank as Outstanding Network Member During 2022 Annual Conference

April 8, 2022 – Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, celebrated its network members at the organization’s annual conference on April 7, 2022. The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) was recognized for its outstanding work during the conference’s “Network Celebrations.”

GBFB was recognized for its support of Massachusetts’ Food Security Task Force through its management of the state’s $30 million food purchasing program. This work has resulted in more statewide collaboration between food banks, school meal programs, local community partners and state agencies.

“Collaboration is a foundational to GBFB’s mission to effectively provide access to healthy food to those who need it most across every community we serve,” said Catherine D’Amato, President and CEO of The Greater Boston Food Bank. “We are immensely grateful for the collaboration, dedication and resiliency exhibited throughout the pandemic with our partners across the Commonwealth in support of GBFB’s mission to end hunger here. We are honored by this award from Feeding America, recognizing our leadership and collaborative action.”

The Greater Boston Food Bank partners across the Commonwealth with its sister food banks in Western Massachusetts, Worcester County and Merrimack Valley, and throughout the pandemic this Food Bank Coalition of Massachusetts worked collectively with the state’s Food Security Task Force, which was led out of the Massachusetts COVID-19 Command Center run by Health and Human Services Secretary Marylou Sudders.

“The economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated food insecurity for so many individuals and families across the Commonwealth. During an incredibly consequential time, The Greater Boston Food Bank was a critically important partner with the state to increase access to healthy, local, and culturally accessible food. On behalf of the Administration, I want to congratulate GBFB on this well-deserved recognition and express our gratitude for their outstanding work to make a difference in the lives of so many,” said Massachusetts Secretary of Health and Human Services Marylou Sudders.

GBFB is the largest hunger-relief organization in New England and among the largest food banks across the nation and a member of Feeding America.

“The Greater Boston Food Bank has made a tremendous impact for people facing hunger in their community,” said Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, CEO of Feeding America. “This honor goes to every person connected to the food bank – from the employees, volunteers, donors and partners. From their focus on engaging with new partners to supporting member food banks across the network in times of disaster or emergency, these network members demonstrate the impact we can have when we come together.”

With a mission to advance change in America by ensuring equitable access to nutritious food for all, Feeding America is a network of more than 200 food banks, 21 statewide food bank associations, and over 60,000 partner agencies, food pantries and meal programs that provide food assistance to tens of millions of people each year.
