Hurricane Sandy Relief Update

Published on November 14, 2012

Last Friday, GBFB sent three trucks to New York to provide ongoing support for those needing help. One truck, a tractor trailer carrying water and food from GBFB, stopped at the Connecticut Food Bank in East Haven to pick up additional supplies and continued to City Harvest in Queens, NY. Connecticut Food Bank was receiving supplies from GBFB just last week, and is now doing what they can to help support other relief efforts. The two other trucks departed GBFB Friday for Island Harvest Food Bank in Mineola, NY, loaded with 20 pallets of paper products, much needed health and beauty items, and baby products. These trucks, along with drivers and a GBFB warehouse associate, will remain on Long Island for up to two weeks in order to facilitate deliveries for Island Harvest, while their trucks, damaged by the storm, undergo repairs. GBFB will continue to provide support, as needed. On Wednesday, November 14, a truck carrying meals, including soups, stews, pasta, and oatmeal, departed Boston and returned to City Harvest in Queens, NY.
